Bone Marrow Aspiration
Kayal Osteoarthritis & Orthobiologics Center stands on the cutting edge of cellular medicine. These minimally invasive orthopaedic therapies are changing the lives of our patients: freeing them from pain and restoring them to desired activity.
Bone marrow aspirate concentrate (BMAC) is an FDA-approved, non-embryonic stem cell treatment in which the body’s stem cells are used to spur tissue regeneration and hasten healing. Harvested from the patient’s own bone marrow, these regenerative cells are injected into the injury site in the same manner as platelet rich plasma (PRP). Once injected, they produce new bone tissue, making them especially helpful for the healing of arthritis, tissue damage, and bone degeneration. In some cases, BMAC may even be a conservative alternative to joint replacement.
Process & Benefits of BMAC
During BMAC, your orthopaedic surgeon extracts bone marrow from the hip or pelvic bone. Spinning the marrow in a centrifuge, he or she separates the regenerative stem cells and injects them into the painful site. After just two to three weeks, patients experience increased joint and muscle stability and may pursue physical therapy to strengthen the problem area.
Unlike other orthobiologic substances that require multiple doses to be optimally effective, BMAC often achieves results after only one injection. Additional benefits of the bone marrow aspirate concentrate (BMAC) procedure may include:
- Non-surgical, minimally invasive process
- Restoration of bone & soft tissue
- Rapid recovery with minimal downtime
- Significant relief of pain & swelling
- Non-controversial, non-embryonic cell harvest method
